September 2010: Sunshine Applesauce

A guest post by Nurture
There is a reason for the apple on the teacher’s desk.  The beginning of school coincides with the final ripening of apples on the tree and their imminent harvest.   What a delicious gift a freshly picked apple, crisp and sweet, would be for teacher and child alike!  We love applesauce and our Sunshine Applesauce recipe is easy to make in a slow cooker.  It tastes wonderful over oatmeal in the morning and makes a great addition to a lunch box.  It’s good cold or warmed up with vanilla (or pistachio or butter pecan) ice cream on top.  Think apple pie without the crust!
