May 2010: Rice and Beans, Red and Green

A guest post by Nurture
This month’s Nurture recipe has become a family favorite for many of ours.  It’s easy, it’s tasty, and it combines rice and beans for a serving of complete protein. It’s also an example of how we put a dish together using Nurture’s Grain Recipe Frameworks: select a whole grain (in this case brown rice), select a protein (here it’s the rice/beans combination with a little extra help from a sprinkling of cheese), pick a vegetable or fruit (like the peas and green onions) and add seasonings (in this dish: salsa, cumin, chili powder, oregano and cilantro.) It’s simple to create the dishes your family loves when you put together the ingredients they like. You can substitute quinoa or any whole grain for the brown rice to change things around if you desire – experiment and have fun!  Please click here to view the full “Rice and Beans, Red and Green” recipe (PDF).
